My must have apps

This post is inspired by my friend Neen, who wrote a similar post last year as part of her 52 lists blog challenge.

So I can’t live without my phone. I know, I know how cliche, but look I’ve even tested it. I left my phone at home, and counted the number of times I reached for it throughout the day. It was in the double digits by the time 10am rolled around! I use it both for work and pleasure so that’s probably why (uh huh…addict)

Anyway, most days you’ll find my phone surgically attached to my hand, brow furrowed and furiously tapping away. What am I doing? Probably using one of the below. Now apps come and go, but this is my CORE list of essential apps. These are on my phone, and I also have a few I like to use on my Samsung Galaxy Note. These are not in any order (mostly because I tried and it just broke my heart) Continue reading

The 10 worst things that could happen on the way to work

1. You get into the car, slam the door, stick the keys in, ease into reverse. Looking over your shoulder you jump, and then breathe a sigh of relief as you realise you forgot the splitting image of yourself in the back seat last night. That thing does give you a fright.

2. You walk outside, turning towards the door to pull it shut behind you. You struggle with the lock, cursing your flatmate who promised to fix it last weekend. It’s just like him to — You turn mid-thought and plant your foot where the next step should be, except it’s not there. You’re free falling, wind whipping past your ears and all you can think about is the fact that you forgot to wear matching underwear. Continue reading

Some belated sunshine…

*ehem. This was last edited October 17th, I was just reminded of the fact that it was sitting in drafts!!*

So a couple of weeks ago Mel tagged me in a sunshine award!!! I had a good squeal about this with Neen, then promptly forgot that I had to DO something in return…so without further ado, some Q&A’s on moi and my own nominees!

If you are nominated you must include the link in a blog, linking to the person/blog that nominated you. You must answer some questions and nominate fellow bloggers and link their blogs in your post. Let the people you have nominated know that you have nominated them!

Here are the questions:

1. Who is your favorite philosopher?
Wow this is a hard one. We don’t take philosophy in high school, nor did I choose it as a unit in university, so over the years Ive come across ideas that have resonated, however whether they are my favourite philosophers I couldn’t say – I would need to take a closer, more holistic look at their total works and ideas. I absolutely believe in freedom of speech and separation between church & state (think this is attributed to Locke?).  I like Chomsky, especially his thoughts on mass media, Huxley who I would consider a philosopher, Thoreau as well as Socrates, Plato & Aristotle , whose work, weirdly enough, I have studied in Ancient History. I also really like the thoughts and writings of Hrant Dink, especially around human & minority rights. Continue reading

A survey in time

So Mel, a lovely girl who I am yet to meet IRL but whose blog I love for  inspiring fashion, fitness and food posted up one of those surveys the other day…you know the ones you used to get emailed all the time when it was all the rage? I actually loved doing and receiving these…so here goes.

What time did get up this morning?
6.15  unfortunately, then a couple of snoozes before getting up for reals at 7.

Friday tunes

I’ve been obsessed with this song for about …oh, 6 months. It’s so epic. It has a real emotional,  fragile and nostalgic quality about it which I love.

The Ellie Goulding version was just featured on one of the final episodes of Gossip Girl. I don’t mind her version, but the original will always have a place in my heart ❤

Moo goo & my quest for natural skincare

The title of this post is quite miseleading. It’s not really MY quest for natural skin care as much as my sisters, but I am definitely strapped in and along for the ride.

A couple of years back, my sister warned me against the evils of parabens. Like any good younger sister, I nodded my head and started paying attention to the labels on my next trip to Priceline. Realising I didn’t actually know what a paraben was, I did some research of my own. It turns out that they are cheap but effective man made preservatives used in beauty products to fight bacteria & fungus. Oh, they’ve also been linked to breast cancer. Yup.

Visual representation of how I expect a paraben to look. Note: this is not an actual paraben.
